The Youth Resource Center (YRC) is a concept recommended by the former Youth Services Coordinating Council (YSCC) as a prevention strategy for parents and youth. The YSCC recognized that families typically experience conflict when social service agencies are not open, in the evening and/or late at night. As a result, families call the police to deal with the conflict. If the call is not dealing with violence or abuse/neglect the police generally respond by providing a “cooling off” period. Families will often refuse help if they are engaged after the situation has been de-escalated. Historically, the family and police fall into a pattern of calls until the situation escalates to system involvement. The YRC is designed to engage the family early to prevent this unnecessary system involvement.
The Cleveland Christian Home (CCH) recently completed and won an RFP process to be the Youth Resource Center vendor. This service will be available during the first quarter of 2009.
